8. Casing in the textblock.
- Place the
textblock in the case and align the bottom of the textblock with the
bottom of the case. The textblock should set in the case flush with the
bottom edge and tight against the case spine. When the textblock and
case are properly aligned, carefully lay the book down, with the front
side up, and fully open the front cover without disturbing the textblock
|
 |
- Glue
the innner 2" of the exposed board. Do not glue the hinge area
between the board and the inlay.
|
 |
- Place
a piece of scrap paper between the pastedown and the textblock and glue
out the pastedown with the exception of an area of 1" parallel to
the spine edge
|
 |
- Remove
the scrap paper and close the cover onto the paste-down without moving
the textblock. The cover should form snuggly around the spine and the
bottom edge of the cover should align with the bottom edge of the
textblock. Carefully turn the entire book over repeat the above steps on
the reverse side of the book.
|
 |
- Place
the book in a book press using press boards with raised edges. The
raised edges should press directly on the hinge area right next to edge
of the case boards.
|
 |
- Upon
removing the book from the press, immediately lay the book on the table
and open it to the middle. The purpose of opening the book is to ensure
that the wide hinge areas have not attached to the textblock. The case
spine and hinges should move freely when the book is opened.
